"Greta Van Fleet are gaining plenty of attention among rock fans. They’re reminding everyone of legendary rock band Led Zeppelin. On the other side we have those who are happy to have a band reviving the hard rock sound of the 70s, bringing it to a new generation of listeners and into a market that’s oversaturated with R&B and hip hop. Regardless of which side you sit on, Greta Van Fleet’s singles are quickly gaining them fans, see them climbing rock charts and have them selling out shows -- all of this and the band have yet to release a full debut record. This video essay explores Greta Van Fleet’s recent rise in popularity, the band members, their EP Black Smoke Rising and their double EP From the Fires. I also reflect on bands of the past that have been tapped for sounding too much like Led Zeppelin, including: Rush, Billy Squier, Kingdom Come, Wolfmother and Rival Sons. But even Led Zeppelin have been known to steal lyrics and riffs from artists without crediting them. ------------------------------- Disclaimer: I do not own any of the videos or music used in this video.
